Franklin County budget committee votes to support commissioners $7 million spending plan

Read Article FARMINGTON Members of the county Budget Advisory Committee voted 6-1 Wednesday not to reject the commissioners’ $7 million budget, which wraps up the spending package for 2021-22. A couple of committee members were supportive of commissioners for not leaving a 3% raise in the budget when they decreased it to 2% on June 24. Tiffany Estabrook of Chesterville said she would like to thank commissioners “for coming back with actual numbers” instead of using 3% just for budgetary purposes. Gary McGrane of Jay, a former commissioner for 27 years, who made the motion to reject the commissioners’ budget, said the salaries should have been negotiated prior to the budget process starting. He also said he would like to see the $6,470 increase from the budget committee’s spending plan be taken out of the commissioners’ department budget.

Jay voters to consider proposed $5.28 spending page for 2021-22

Read Article JAY Residents will consider a proposed $5.28 million budget for 2021-22 and elect three selectpersons and two school board directors at the annual Town Meeting on April 27. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Spruce Mountain Middle School gym. The budget proposal is $12,800 less than for 2020-21. After factoring in an estimated $2 million in revenue, the net municipal budget would be about $3.21 million. It represents a decrease of $7,274, or 0.22%, from this fiscal year, which ends June 30. This does not include the town’s share of the Regional School Unit 73 or Franklin County budgets, which have not been set.

Franklin County sets budget review for April 20

Read Article FARMINGTON Franklin County commissioners Tuesday set the 2021-22 budget review for April 20. Commissioners also voted to approve repairing a sewer line with a patch at the Sheriff’s Office. The proposed budget is still being put together. A formal invitation will be sent to the Budget Advisory Committee to attend commissioners’ review of the budget either in person, through a Zoom program or it can be watched on Mt. Blue Community Access TV, which is livestreamed. Related County Clerk Julie Magoon said she liked Zoom much better than a Vast conference call option. Selectmen from each of the three districts Monday evening elected selectmen to fill vacancies on the Budget Committee.
