after a horrific car accident that threatened to end his career just over a year ago. coy wire is live from georgia at the augusta national. as i understand, he had a hill to climb to get in contention. what do you hear? what is the buzz there? reporter: good morning, christi and boris. it s a grueling course and he s been powering through it. he s been on a physical and mental trip. you can see it again. you can never count tiger out. yesterday it was cold. it was windy. it didn t help any of the golfers. tiger bogeyed four out of the five holes and you had to wonder if his body wasn t going to be up to the grind two days in a row, but he did settle in. he set up his first chip birdie on the day an he was off and running. he finished one over, tied for
where i had an opportunity. very hard to believe it s been just 14 months since a near fatal car crash. his post round recovery with his surgery repaired leg now includes ice baths and heating pads. while you may catch a limp as he walks the course, tiger s intention is clear. essentially, you can never count tiger out if he s there. you can never could want tiger out, no matter where it is. no matter when it is. especially here at augusta national golf club. he s won five times. he s more familiar with this course than anybody else in the field, without question. making the cut means he has a chance. reporter: if tiger makes the impossible possible yet again, he ll be the oldest masters champion ever, surpassing jack nicklaus by just three weeks at the age of 46. nicklaus final masters victory came in 1986. woods is nine strokes behind the leader, but on the weekend at the masters, don t count him out. we ll send it back to you.
