Taunton Man Sentenced For Vicious 2019 Assault on Girlfriend
A Taunton man will serve 5-to-6 years in state prison for violently assaulting his girlfriend in 2019.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III says 48-year old Robert Hosea pleaded guilty to indictments charging him with strangulation, aggravated assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness. He was sentenced last week in Fall River Superior Court.
On March 17, 2019, Taunton Police were dispatched to Morton Hospital at approximately 8:45 p.m. for a report of a seriously injured woman. The victim had a swollen face, a black and blue eye which was swollen shut, and dried blood around her mouth and on her teeth. Her mouth was swollen and her front teeth were loose and appeared almost knocked out.
“The town has prevailed and upheld the ban,” Town Counsel Robert Troy said.
Judge Thomas Perrino ruled that a ban on recreational marijuana through a general bylaw, which voters passed at town meeting in 2018, is legal under state law.
The Haven Center Inc. sought to operate a medical and adult-use marijuana retail sales and cultivation business at 340 MacArthur Blvd., but Tuesday s ruling disallows the latter use.
After reviewing the court’s memorandum of decision, the Haven Center intends to file a motion for reconsideration, according to a statement from the business s attorney, Ben Zehnder.

Fall River Man Sent to Prison After Violent 2019 Break-In
A Fall River man with an extensive criminal history was convicted in Fall River Superior Court of breaking into an apartment and being a felon in possession of an illegal gun.
Superior Court Judge Thomas Perrino sentenced 33-year old Felix Cortes to five to seven years in state prison. Prosecutors say the incident happened in Fall River on November 7, 2019.
Prosecutors say the defendant and his co-defendant broke into the victim s apartment on Division Street in Fall River at 9:30 a.m. by kicking in the door. The defendant was wearing a mask over his face. The door was splintered and cracked, and the drywall from the wall was all over the floor.
