Houston Chamber Choir is getting into the holiday spirit with it’s holiday concert, Christmas at the Villa – On This Day Earth Shall Ring. Shows will take place in the Villa de Matel chapel twice on Saturday and Sunday, and they will include guest performers the Treble Choir of Houston and guitarist Marc Garvin. ....
A special worship service in the University Chapel, led by the dean and the associate dean of religious life and the chapel, that features festive music of the season! With music by Kenneth Grayson, Jr. H’71, H’02, and Eric Plutz, University Organist. All persons, including members of the broader community, are welcome to attend this event if they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 if over age 12. Face coverings must be worn at all times by everyone over age 2. Registration is required for contact tracing purposes. December 14, 2020 It’s time for Christmas music! Technically, of course, if you’re traditional about these things, it’s time for Advent music. Advent is the beautiful four-week season that precedes Christmas, a time of waiting in darkness for the light of Christ to dawn. During this tumultuous year of 2020, the season of Advent, and all that comes with it, has much to say to worshippers (read an essay I wrote on Advent and the hymns and carols particular to that season here). Today we must admit that Advent and Christmas are often somewhat jumbled in our minds. In this year of unique trials and tribulations especially, many of us may feel, alongside Mame, that we “need a little Christmas, right this very minute.” ....
