Wyden reaffirms call for Trump to be removed
The Democratic Oregon U.S. senator repeats his demand during a Saturday news conference.
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden repeated his call for President Donald Trump to be removed from office either by his Cabinet invoking the 25th Amendment or Congress impeaching him again during a Jan. 9 news conference.
Trump is a threat every day that he is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Period, the Oregon Democrat said.
Wyden laid out what it would take for a removal to happen whether it be the 25th Amendment or impeachment and said there is bipartisan support for both options. ....

The suspect had previously been arrested but escaped custody after being accused of the attack on a Portland officer.
The attempted murder suspect who escaped from Portland Police Bureau s Central Precinct on Saturday night has been captured and taken into custody.
Early Friday morning, David Dahlen, 24, was spotted by the United States Marshal s Fugitive Task Force inside a car at Lents Park on Southeast 92nd Avenue. The U.S. Marshals notified Portland police.
Shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 8, authorities attempted to block the vehicle Dahlen was in. Despite their efforts, the driver of the vehicle who was not Dahlen was able to maneuver out of their reach. ....

UPDATE: Police say David Michael Dahlen II escaped after a holding cell door was accidentally left unlatched by a cleaning crew member.
A man accused of trying to kill a Portland police officer last month escaped police custody after a holding room door didn t fully latch when it was closed, according to authorities.
David Dahlen, 24, escaped custody at Portland Police Bureau s Central Precinct on Saturday night and is still at large after he allegedly rammed a police officer s patrol car with a stolen pickup truck on Christmas Eve in Southeast Portland. The officer in the car, Officer Jennifer Pierce, is still recovering from injuries. ....

The Portland mayor wants a meeting of law enforcement agencies to coordinate enforcement against ongoing vandalism.
Mayor Ted Wheeler minced no words in his opening remarks at a New Year s Day news conference following a riot on New Year s Eve in downtown Portland.
Wheeler laid out the who, what, when, where and why of what happened Thursday, Dec. 31, when the Multnomah County Justice Center, U.S. Courthouse and numerous businesses came under attack.
The who: violent antifa and anarchists, Wheeler said, explaining they rampaged through downtown Portland causing tens of thousands of dollars of damage with commercial fireworks aimed at buildings, broken windows, fires in the street and graffiti. ....

While talks continue about a potential sale of the house on North Mississippi Avenue that s become a flashpoint for the ongoing unrest in Portland, owners of a vacant lot next door are planning their own transaction.
Owners of the property directly to the north of the so-called Red House on Mississippi are now in talks to donate the property to a nonprofit, or non-governmental organization, the Portland Tribune has learned.
The two brothers who own the adjacent property are planning to donate their lot adjacent to the Red House to a prominent and respected social services NGO with strong ties to the African American community in Portland, said the owners spokesman, John McIsaac. ....
