Most deaths due to breathlessness in second Covid wave: Experts

BENGALURU: Of the 592 Covid patients who died on Friday, 440 had symptoms of “breathlessness”. Experts said that this has been one of the major symptoms in the second wave. “We have been witnessing more cases of breathlessness, while in the previous wave, symptoms like dry cough, joint pain and headaches were more,” said Dr Manjunath C N, Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiac Sciences, and a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Covid.
Medical experts working with the State Government said that most patients reporting breathlessness are ending up in ICUs or dying at their residences. “The deterioration can be sudden especially if there’s ‘happy hypoxia’, which is considered a silent symptom. A patient has an extremely low oxygen level, but doesn’t show any obvious external signs such as breathlessness,” said Dr S Sacchidanand, Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS. ....

Karnataka govt modifies order on seating capacity in cinema halls amid pressure from film industry

BENGALURU: A day after it announced stringent measures to tackle the spread of the coronavirus, the State Government modified its order on 50 per cent seating capacity in cinema halls, coming under pressure from the film industry. Cinema halls can now have full seating capacity till April 6.
Under Clause 10 of the order, seating in cinema halls was restricted to a maximum of 50 per cent of the capacity. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has made a request to the CM to allow cinema halls to run at full capacity as advance online bookings have been made and due to non-receipt of advance notice. It is now decided that the restriction will be made applicable with effect from April 7, 2021, a fresh order from Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar said. ....

Bengaluru: Many VIPs in the state have been offered Covid vaccine! There have been cases of several vaccines being offered or provided to high-profile individuals in exchange for bitcoins, many doctors said.
The doctors have been receiving calls from VIP patients, wanting to know whether these Covid vaccines offered by certain dealers are original and could be taken. They cannot ascertain the source, make, price, brand and originality of the vaccine moving around in the black market. ....
