Distinguished Alumni to be honored Homecoming Week

The Louisiana Tech Alumni Association has named the University’s 2021 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The individuals will be honored during Homecoming week at a luncheon, in the Loyal Blue March and Homecoming Parade, and on the field during the football game.

VISTA Center students illustrate first book of ‘Journey Towards a Better World’ series Even before graduating with their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Louisiana Tech, two School of Design students have illustrated the first in a series of books in collaboration with The Inspire Project through Tech’s VISTA Center. Studio Art major Ronald McKinney of Shreveport and Graphic Design major Noah Ruff of Ruston, now seniors but juniors as they worked on the series this year, teamed up with author Tracy Blom of Ohio to create  Worrisome Waters, a just-released science-packed fictional story about cleaning up polluted lake water that is threatening the local community.

Each commencement featured a different speaker all recognized and distinguished graduates of Louisiana Tech University. All the speakers focused on the impact that a Louisiana Tech education made on their lives. College of Engineering and Science In his address for the College of Engineering and Science ceremony, Bill Bailey Jr., electrical engineering,’87, focused on the three Ps of success – preparation, perspiration and providence.

Architecture grad heads to Waco and internship with Chip and Joanna Gaines Shelby Gifford is an Architecture student graduating with her master’s from Louisiana Tech University in Spring 2021. She has accepted a summer internship with Chip and Joanna Gaines at Magnolia in Waco, Texas – beginning right after this weekend’s commencement events. Gifford, originally from Arkansas, came to Louisiana Tech searching for a way to combine her love for art and math into a career. After touring the Architecture department, she knew that pursuing a degree in architecture at Louisiana Tech was the perfect fit for her and her career aspirations.
