Discussion Of The Paper "Managing Disinflations" By Stephen G. Cecchetti, Michael E. Feroli, Peter Hooper, Frederic S. Mishkin, And Kermit L. Schoenholtz, Federal Reserve Governor Philip N. Jefferson, At The U.S. Monetary Policy Forum, New York, New York

Thank you very much for inviting me to discuss this paper. It is a timely review for central bankers charged with lowering inflation to targets or, in the terminology of the authors, managing disinflation. I really enjoyed reading it. Before I begin, let me remind you that the views I will express today are my own and not necessarily those of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) or the Federal Reserve System.

Lockdowns don't prevent coronavirus spread -- Society's Child -- Sott.net

Tue, 12 Jan 2021 10:09 UTC Much has been said about the terrifying models that in the spring projected such a staggering number of deaths from the novel coronavirus. In hindsight, as bad as the pandemic has been, it never even approached the dismal numbers suggested ‒ the very numbers that rationalized society-wide lockdowns in Italy, the U.K., New York City, and then in many other places as the pandemic spread. What researchers have struggled with since then is how to measure the impact of various actions taken. Do we even know if what we re doing is working? Where s the evidence for that, and are there other things we ought to do instead?

Lockdowns do not control the coronavirus: The evidence -- Society's Child -- Sott.net

© Christopher Thomond/The Guardian An Orwellian public information notice in Manchester on Thursday. The use of universal lockdowns in the event of the appearance of a new pathogen has no precedent. It has been a science experiment in real time, with most of the human population used as lab rats. The costs are legion. The question is whether lockdowns worked to control the virus in a way that is scientifically verifiable. Based on the following studies, the answer is no and for a variety of reasons: bad data, no correlations, no causal demonstration, anomalous exceptions, and so on. There is no relationship between lockdowns (or whatever else people want to call them to mask their true nature) and virus control.
