Letter to the editor: Affordable housing for Edmonds - the real story

detached accessory dwelling units (DADU) housing young families can afford housing for veterans and those with disabilities Our commission: “ Develop, for Council consideration, diverse housing policy options designed to expand the range of housing (including rental and owned) available in Edmonds irrespective of age, gender, race, religious affiliation, physical disability, or sexual orientation.” For 18 months, two dozen Edmonds residents, selected by city council, listened to the public, researched housing issues, investigated future needs and worked as a team, with public input, to create those “options.” The housing commission sought more public input than any other Edmonds commission: Four open houses – one in person, three online (COVID curtailed our ability to meet in person)

Hearty souls take their own pandemic Polar Plunge to welcome 2021

MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: January 1, 2021 1307 Clad in the traditional Edmonds Polar Plunge bathrobes, event founder Brian Taylor was on hand, joined by daughter Kate and son Jack. City Councilmember Vivian Olson (left) celebrates a successful polar plunge with daughter Olivia (center) and friend Tana Axtelle. Although the official event was canceled, individuals and small groups showed up throughout the day to take a New Year’s Day dip. It takes more than a pandemic to keep Edmonds’ troupe of intrepid Polar Plungers out of the water on New Year’s Day. Although the official event was canceled, small groups began arriving at Brackett’s Landing shortly after the sun came up, and by mid-morning scores had taken the plunge into the 42-degree waters of Puget Sound.
