Suhuyini Nbang-Ba, the socialist activist, journalist and teacher died at home in the Gambia on 16th September 2020.  He was nine days short of his sixty-first birthday and is survived by a brother, a sister, three nieces and four nephews.
Suhuyini was born in the small town of Ejura, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.  He was, however, a Dagomba, a member of the Muslim tribe of that name from Ghana’s Northern Region. He was originally named Mohammed Yacabou, and known as M.Y. to his friends, but chose the name Suhuyini Nbang-Ba in later life.  This was a political act reclaiming his ancestry and history his Muslim name could be traced back to colonisation of the Dagomba area by traders between the 12th and 15th centuries.  Instead, Suhuyini chose a name in his mother tongue, Dagbani ‘Suhuyini’ meaning ‘unity’ (literally ‘one heart’) and ‘Nbang-Ba’ meaning ‘I know them’ a reference ....

Born on September 24, 1957, at Sombo in the Upper West Region, Mr Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin is a graduate of the University of Ghana (1977-1980) and the Ghana School of Law (1980 -1982).
He holds an Executive Masters in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
His parents were Mr. Sansunni Bagbin and Mrs. Margaret B. Bagbin who were both peasant farmers.
Mr. Bagbin is the fourth child of nine children of Margaret Bagbin and the thirteenth of the Bagbin family.
The Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic is married to Mrs. Alice Adjua Yornas Bagbin, the Programme Officer of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) office in Ghana. ....

Former Council of State Member passes away

A former member of the Council of State and former ambassador to Denmark and the Scandinavias, Hajia Fati Habib-Jawula, is dead. She was 78.
Hajia Habib-Jawula, who died on December 15 this year, was buried the next day in accordance with Islamic tradition.
She was the wife of the late Alhaji Habib Jawula (Founder Member of the Progress Party), niece of former Convention People’s Party (CPP) flag bearer, Dr Abu Sakara and sister-in-law of Lepowura M.N.D. Jawula, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association and  former Chief Director of the Ministry of Harbours and Railways and the Ministry of Health. ....

Election 2020: Dr Mahamudu To Serve Second Term As Vice President


 
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will from January 7, 2021, serve another four year-term as the V ice President of Ghana.
He partnered President  Akufo-Addo as a running mate to garner more than 6.7 million votes to beat the main opposition National Democratic Congress’ candidate Mr John Mahama who polled 6.2 million votes.
The astute Economist and a Banker  was elected  the  7th Vice President of the Ghana’s fourth  Republic.
He was for the fourth time nominated as the running-mate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Flag-bearer for the December, 2020 Election, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr Bawumia has championed the Government’s digitisation agenda to make the Ghanaian economy financially-inclusive and expand the tax net to the informal sector of the economy. ....
