An experimental dance video work
Bakar, co-produced by Leow Hui Min and Jackey Chan, sees two panic-stricken dancers in a percussive frenzy, freaking out in indoor and outdoor settings.
In these pandemic times, the performers in this Orang Orang Drum Theatre video – Tai Chun Wai and Syamil Norzalahuddin – look like they are unleashing pent-up emotions (the best kind of creative fuel) and relishing the freedom to dance up a storm.
Bakar (a video shot before the current MCO), with its cathartic energy, is one of the highlights of the Dancebox May 2021 series (ticketed at RM15), which will be streamed online via CloudTheatre on May 29 and 30 at 8.30pm.
