The Kern Literacy Council is kicking off the new year with a book giveaway for youth on the westside by working with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
The WIC nutrition program has a mission to protect the health of low-income women, through healthcare referrals and diet education, while providing them with nutritious food.
At the end of the two weeks, all of the money will be pooled together to buy necessities for seniors in the Buttonwillow area, things like laundry detergent, dish soap, blankets, and pet food.
The children's center at Taft College is receiving an upgrade, thanks to a grant from First 5 Kern. It comes as the college is preparing to celebrate it's 50th anniversary next year.
