County exec forces sheriff’s hand on body cams: We’ll pay for them: Onondaga County Sheriff Gene Conway said in a Syracuse.com article published Friday morning that he had no plans to outfit sheriff’s deputies with body cameras, echoing a stance he’s held for at least four years. In an extraordinary 9-1/2 hours after Syracuse.com’s story published at 6 a.m., the county went from no plans for body cameras to a pledge to pay for the cameras with a possible rollout in the next year. Syracuse, N.Y. The Working Families Party has decided who to endorse in the Syracuse mayor’s race: No one.
Party leaders chose not to give any candidate the coveted ballot line in this year’s race. Three candidates had interviewed with local party members: Mayor Ben Walsh, an independent, and Democratic challengers Khalid Bey and Michael Greene.

The Onondaga County Legislature approved a new energy tax that is expected to cost about $6 a month for county residents.

Syracuse, N.Y. The Onondaga County Democratic Committee Wednesday named candidates who will run for each of the 17 seats on the county legislature this year as part of an effort to win control of the body from Republicans.
Republicans currently outnumber Democrats 11 to six on the legislature. And the GOP is targeting three seats in and around the city that are held by Democrats.
