The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will host its monthly online Super Stellar Friday series as Dr. Shawna Hollen of University of New Hampshire talks about her team’s work imaging the world at an atomic level via Zoom webinar on November 5th at 7 pm. It s one challenge to take pictures of the celestial bodies in the universe and quite another to take pictures of atoms, but the change in scale is about the same. Atoms make up everything we touch and see, but understanding and seeing atoms is something we ve only accomplished in the last 30 years. Following the presentation, Dr. Hollen will answer audience questions in a Q & A session. After more than a year of operating at a reduced schedule and a temporary closure to make way for new exhibits, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will celebrate its return to a full schedule on Thursday with inventor Dean Kamen and U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. Kamen will also announce a gift to the Discovery Center at the 1:30 p.m. event.

Join the team at Prescott Farm every Saturday in March to experience an old-fashioned New England tradition making maple syrup! From tapping a tree to tasting delicious maple syrup, you will participate hands-on in every step of the syrup making process. Environmental educators will help you build tree ID skills, learn the parts of a tree and their functions, use measuring tools to find an appropriate tree to tap, use historical and modern tree tapping tools, learn the history of maple sugaring including Native American legends, and discover the math and chemical/physical science in the boiling process.
