Summit County officials waiting on the state before adjusting health order and mask rules

Students wear their masks as they return to Silverthorne Elementary for the first day of school Aug. 27. Under the state’s recent announcement, children would still need to wear a mask in school settings if their caregiver or teacher is unvaccinated. Jared Polis and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. At the Board of Health meeting Thursday, May 13, Summit County Manager Scott Vargo suggested the county adopt the state’s public health order so that local restrictions are in line with the state. Dates Set for Next Mass Vaccination Clinic at Summit County Fairgrounds

WKSU First doses of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 will be administered at clinics this Friday and next Tuesday at Summit County Fairgrounds. Summit County County Public has announced new vaccination dates at the Summit County Fairgrounds located at 1050 North Ave. in Tallmadge. The department will be administering first doses of the Moderna vaccine to anyone age 18 or older by appointment on Friday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 27 from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. Second doses will be administered at the same time as the first dose on May 24 for those vaccinated April 23 and on May 25 for those vaccinated April 27. There is no flexibility with those dates, so SCPH recommends if someone is not able to receive the second dose at the appointed time, they should not sign up to receive their first shot at the fairgrounds.

Restaurant owners and managers say much of their staff is vaccinated

Photo by Ashley Low Restaurant owners and managers are working to help their employees get vaccinated. Restaurant workers make up a large portion of the labor pool in Summit County with over 2,000 annual job openings in the industry, according to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Summit County profile. While some jobs in the county were able to be done remotely when COVID-19 arrived last March, restaurant employees had to remain working in person. Now, they’re being prioritized for vaccination. A special pod was set up last month in partnership with the state specifically for restaurant workers, and restaurant owners and managers are working to get as many of their employees vaccinated as possible following a year of steady coronavirus quarantines.
