IT’S THE NEWEST WEAPON IN SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK’S CAMPAIGN TO END HUNGER IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. MERCY KITCHEN IS THE PRODUCT OF THE PANDEMIC. WHEN HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LOST JOBS OR TOOK A HIT TO THEIR INCOME, THEY TURNED TO SECOND HARVEST AND ITS ARRAY OF OPTIONS TO KEEP FOOD ON THE TABLE. LAST YEAR, SECOND HARVEST DEVELOPED SEVERAL NEW PANDEMIC RELIEF PROGRAMS, BRING HOPE HOME DELIVERING FOOD TO HOMEBOUND INDIVIDUALS AND SENIORS, 7 DAY MEAL BOXES PROVIDING A WEEK’S WORTH OF BREAKFAST OR LUNCH TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILY MEAL BOXES. Updated: 7:08 AM EDT May 25, 2021 Second Harvest is delivering 300,000 meals each day to struggling families by partnering with community food pantries. Money being donated to Second Harvest helps not only people in need but the programs that help those people. “This is my passion feeding people, making sure everybody I feel like nobody should be hungry,” Pauline Jackson said.Jackson has been working at that for more than 19 years out of a small home converted into a community church in Winter Garden.Her Jesus Loves You Outreach Ministries helps families from all across Central Florida. Since COVID-19, the weekly need at Jackson s site has increased from 50 to 300 families. “Most of the people have lost their jobs or the hours have been cut. They re down to one income or they have no income at all. Families are moving in together because of loss of work,” Jackson said. Through her partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, Jackson is providing Family Meals. T
