Jim Wheeler Had Hank Dawson Killed With Car Bomb In Alaska

Hank Dawson loved living in Alaska. In fact, he told his sister he would never live in "the lower 48" ever again. Unfortunately, he would never even get an opportunity to change his mind.  On the morning of October 18, 1993, in Wasilla, a small suburb of Anchorage, residents heard a loud explosion. Shortly after, a report came in of a vehicle fire at the Alaska Army National Guard Alcantra Armory Complex.

Presumed sewer gas leak sends 7 people at Wasilla shopping center to hospital

Presumed sewer gas leak sends 7 people at Wasilla shopping center to hospital Print article The Clock Tower in Wasilla reopened Saturday after a presumed sewer gas leak caused seven people in the building to seek treatment at a hospital the previous evening. “We’re pretty certain that it was related to sewer gas. … Sewer gas may include hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and methane,” said Ken Barkley, director of emergency services for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Barkley said the department first received a call at 6 p.m. Friday from someone feeling ill inside the building. The building was evacuated afterward, and Barkley said that by the time emergency services arrived, “everyone was already out.”

Anchorage Fire Chief Jodie Hettrick plans to retire this summer

Anchorage Fire Chief Jodie Hettrick plans to retire this summer Published March 3 Share on Facebook Print article Anchorage Fire Chief Jodie Hettrick said Wednesday that she plans to retire at the end of June. Both Hettrick and Anchorage Police Chief Justin Doll will retire from the municipality as a new mayor is elected. It’s common practice for incoming mayors to replace fire or police chiefs and Hettrick said she is viewing this as an opportunity to retire after spending 34 years working in emergency services. Hettrick was appointed chief by former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz in 2018. She joined the department in 2012 and has served as assistant chief, then deputy chief. She took the helm at the department after previous chief Denis LeBlanc retired.
