Human rights group commend Buhari over Kankara boys

Views: 503 Students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, kidnapped last Friday have been freed, according to the state government. Governor Aminu Masari Thursday night said the boys were at Tsafe, Zamfara State, and would be transported to Kankara on Friday. According to him, the release of the schoolboys was facilitated by the leadership of MACABAN/Miyetti Allah. The Special Adviser to the Katsina Governor on Security, Ibrahim Kastina, also confirmed the release of the students Thursday. He said the students were at Tsafe (82.5km via road) from Kankara town in Katsina. “Alhamdulillah. The boys have been rescued and are now at Tsafe, Zamfara State. But, we shall be moving them to Kankara tomorrow (Friday),” Kastina said.

Daily Trust reports that hundreds of motorcycle riding bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked the boys’ school at night. During the attack, hundreds of students scaled through the fences of the school in search of safety while the rampaging bandits kept shooting and asking the fleeing boys to return. The attack on the school took place a few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari landed in Katsina and proceeded to Daura, his hometown for a week-long private visit. The siege at the Kankara science school was one of several attacks in towns and villages in Katsina State between Thursday and Friday, where bandits killed some people and abducted others to unknown locations.
