E. B. Magalona Receives Hall of Fame Award for Environmental Governance

E. B. Magalona earns Hall of Fame award for exceptional environmental governance, winning for the third consecutive year in the Abanse Negrense Good Environmental Governance Award (ANGEGA) in the Local Government Unit (LGU) category. The Municipality's outstanding performance was recognized by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, with a total of eight awards received. Mayor Marvin Malacon and the E. B. Magalona delegation were honored for their commitment and leadership in championing good environmental governance, further inspiring impactful initiatives and strengthening their commitment to protecting the environment. PAMB recommends yearly 3-month closure of Mount Apo

THE Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) is recommending a yearly closure of Mount Apo.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao Regional Public Affairs Office (DENR-RPAO) Chief Jayvee Agas told SunStar Davao in a phone interview on Thursday, April 8, 2021, that this was one of the recommendations during a meeting on March 31.
Agas said the board recommended that there will be a regular rehabilitation period of Mount Apo through a yearly three-month closure or “offset season,” particularly from June to August.
The reason for this para magkaroon ng (is to have a) rehabilitation activities within the Mount Apo Natural Park. When you say rehabilitation, kasama na doon ang (this includes) cleanup drive, tree planting activities, and we have to do some strategies para magkaroon tayo ng (to have) other facilities, she said. ....

Mt. Busa: An area that needs to be protected

The Busa Mountain Range (BMR) straddles the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato in southern Mindanao.
According to Kier Mitchel E. Pitogo, resident wildlife biologist and project development officer of the PASu AVPL, “it is one of the last remaining primary forests in the region.”
A primary forest is a forest whose ecology hasn’t been disturbed by human activity and thus, contains flora and fauna native to the region.
Pitologo recently assisted Aljohn Jay Saavedra, resident botanist and Forest Extension Officer of the Protected Area Superintendent office of the Allah Valley Protected Landscape (PASu AVPL) in DENR-PENRO South Cotabato, in a research expedition to catalogue amphibian and reptile species in the area. They encountered so many orchid species during this time that they also ended up publishing another paper called “Richness and Distribution of Orchids (Orchidaceae) in the Forests of Mount Busa, Sarangani, Southern Mindana ....
