robberies. they don t stop at robberies. criminals don t stop at a certain level and what s really disturb something a bigger spike in robberies, various forms of armed assault or unarmed assault. those are the criminals rise you see shootings follow that. for anyone who thinks if we get shootings down, we have antigun unit or antigang unit that will only do the job, it s not. you have to stop people in the midlevel crimes. the lower level crimes. bring back the broken windows theory. get back to street policing. if you don t, you re going to fail. people pay the price. griff: let s talk about the shootings in new york for just a second because the mayor-elect, eric adams, from brooklyn, specifically the one specific neighborhood, brownsville is the hardest hit, most violent of all of them, he is turning to show a little bit of a pro-law enforcement side which we haven t seen out of any democrats. his spokesman saying this, quote, stopping violent crime will be adams priority when
months and they talk about thanksgiving being a favorite holiday of theirs because it reallyislam. these are people who are susceptible to this type of rhetoric. it s a small minority of the islamic population and there is an opportunity for the communities to come together and try to identify people, reach out to them, people who are subjected or suspect to this type of recruitment. it s not very different from the gangs, the street gangs that we see in a lot of urban areas, the inner city. the same type of philosophy in terms of outreach and policing that helps to stem those types of crimes, chris. again back to the basics of street policing, is there any way to prepare for somebody to pick a car, rent a car, own a car and start driving down a pedestrian or a bike way and just start killing people and wounding people, is there any
where the lights were defective and a cop shot this poor guy and killed him a couple weeks ago. i think your point is a very good one. there s a policy question. in public housing, some were on patrol with guns out. the agency was not on top of this. the agency didn t reign this in. i don t know how they didn t do that. is it a leadership issue? sergeants looking out for these guys who know that this is how they are rolling around in housing projects and need to say stop? this commissioner is as good as it gets for street policing. he gets this whole idea which sometimes it s bureaucratic. he s trying to reorientate the job toward the street policing. there may be time when cops have to have weapons out but on the ordinary basis they shouldn t be walking around any place with weapons out. dangerous to them. sends a terrible message to the residents. we re watching and waiting if you re just joining us waiting for the mayor of new york. we re waiting for the police
