About a thousand climate activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) were arrested on Saturday afternoon on the Utrechtsebaan (A12) in The Hague, the police reported. They blocked the road from 1 p.m. 45 minutes later, the police began removing the demonstrators. One by one, the activists were escorted to a detention van.
The supporters of the climate group Extinction Rebellion, who block the A12 highway in The Hague every day, could be joined by a more radical group from Germany, called “Letzte Generation”. This group plans to come to The Hague with about 100 people to participate in the traffic blockade on Saturday and Sunday.

The climate action group intends to block the Utrechtsebaan, as the stretch of highway is known, every day until the Dutch government stops subsidizing fossil fuels. The police have arrested around 3,000 protesters since Saturday, and more arrests are expected to follow today.
