Suspects were convicted almost 20 years after the murder. But the met s disastrous handling of the case means no one else has been brought tojustice. Last year, the bbc publicly identified a sixth suspect, matthew white, who died in 2021 and revealed multiple failures by the met to properly investigate him. Now, stephens mother, baroness doreen lawrence, gives her first interview about the new evidence and the met s response. We knew there was five, possibly six, and now we know that there was six and the one thats just passed away, hes probably the key one who probably caused stevens murder.
