Exxon Unit Wants Another Shot At Bad Faith Claims
Law360 (June 28, 2021, 8:40 PM EDT) ExxonMobil Corp. unit XTO Energy has urged a North Dakota federal judge to reconsider his tossing its bad faith claims against an insurer in a coverage dispute over a 2016 explosion, saying it must get a chance to be briefed on the insurer s alleged misconduct.
XTO said on Friday that the court did not consider the parties previous agreement in its decision granting partial summary judgment to Commerce and Industry Insurance Co. and throwing out XTO s bad faith claims.
In May, U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland said XTO s three insurers, CIIC, Berkley National Insurance Co., and StarStone National Insurance Co..

Cincinnati’s Core Specialty Makes Key Appointments in Property Division January 6, 2021
Cincinnati, Ohio-based Core Specialty Insurance Holdings Inc. has filled several key roles within its Property Division, led by Alison Oliphant.
The company had previously announced its plans to launch this division ahead of the start of the 2021 renewal cycle. David Phillips and Christopher Muller have joined Core Specialty as senior vice presidents of Property Underwriting. Additionally, Laurence Bunin and Adam Tyburski have joined as co-heads of Personal Lines Fronted Programs.
Phillips was most recently E&S Property head for Pioneer Underwriting where he was responsible for building underwriting strategy, product, and execution. Prior to that he helped build Maxum Specialty E&S Property following his time with Arch Specialty, Wellington Underwriting, and J. Linneman & Company.
Core Specialty Adds Tokio Marine’s Jacobs to E&O, Professional Liability Team December 28, 2020
Cincinnati-based Core Specialty Insurance Holdings reported that Jeff Jacobs has joined as senior vice president, head of Errors and Omissions Professional Liability.
Jacobs has 30 years of insurance sector experience leading professional liability, management liability and other commercial property and casualty programs. He was most recently with Tokio Marine HCC and before that, with NAS Insurance, which is now owned by Tokio Marine.
In his career, Jacobs has also worked at Monitor Liability Managers, Lockton Affinity, Meadowbrook Insurance Group, ULLICO Casualty and, for 17 years, Aon Affinity.
Core Specialty offers E&O coverages for legal, marketing, media and real estate professionals.
