as we get into tomorrow, the rockies bringing snow there and bitter cold temperatures on tap by the time we get into the weekend. be in it plains and spread east. this is going to be a mess across the great lakes for heavy snow, gusty winds, travel will be difficult. and that rain starts to work over those same portions of that dealt with heavy rain over the past 24 hours, and on top of that we ll have another round of potentially severe weather in the forecast. lots to cover in the days ahead. that was meant to be the good news. angie lassman, thank you. still ahead, this is relevant, the iowa caucuses are just days away and former president trump still maintains a large lead in the polls despite barely showing up for campaign events in the state. coming up we ll have analysis whether trump s absence in the trail from iowa will affect support there. and how a brutal winter forecast might impact turnout there, too. that s just ahead on way too early. on way too early.

then we are also going to start to see those spread east. we have some additional showers in portions of the northeast, the great lakes region and this cluster across portions of south texas. a lot of activity going on today and the potential for some strong to severe thunderstorms exist as well. we are talking damaging winds, large hail and a few tornados. d.c. pittsburgh, cincinnati, nashville stretch across forces much atlanta and memphis and our sejd area out to the west. it also has the potential for those strong storms. two different waves here are expected today. the one ongoing this morning and then once we move into the afternoon and evening a lot of those same areas get hit yet again. but that s when the real focus for some of those strongest thunderstorms is going to be, in the back half of the day. by tomorrow again more showers and thunderstorms across the northeast, the mid-atlantic regional and even some additional showers and thunderstorms firing up across the southeast
