Mary Pietrangelo began working for the county again and officially became the medical examiner last week following Dr. Daniel Spitz’s resignation last October after serving in the post for over 20 years.
“Dr. Pietrangelo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, and her extensive background in forensic pathology and medicine will contribute significantly to the office's mission,” says a news release from the office of County Executive Mark Hackel.
Dr. Daniel Spitz said he “wishes the county well” but called his decision “a little bittersweet” because while the office has progressed far during his long tenure, the county has stifled him and his deputy medical examiner.
