The United States Space Force, the sixth branch of the U.S. Military, was established on December 20, 2019; at three months it appears to have already experienced the unpredictable nature of the federal budgeting process.
Gen. John “Jay” Raymond, the first guardian and chief of space operations for Space Force, formally retired Wednesday and passed the responsibility onto Lt. Gen. Bradley Saltzman during a ceremony that marked the end of nearly 40 years of service.

The United States Space Force has re-designated the 45th Space Wing, which oversees launches on Florida’s Space Coast, as Space Launch Delta 45.
Via a virtual ceremony held at Patrick Space Force Base in Florida, the change occurred May 11, 2021. Space Launch Delta 45’s commander is Brig. Gen. Stephen Purdy.
