have been happening. and it s a bipartisan infrastructure bill, that we need to start investing in our infrastructure. but we re not investing in train infrastructure. all right, thank you, as always, congresswoman debbie dingell. for michigan to arizona, joining me now is the governor of arizona for katie hobbs. governor, let us start with your states budget. there is day, you vetoed a so-called skinny proposal for the republican legislature. instead, you re calling for a plan that is roughly 1.5 billion dollars larger and includes money for housing to homeless, child tax credits, and other social spending programs. when, where does this fight go next? well, the budget has always been a negotiating process in our state. and that republican led legislature this year decided they didn t want to do that. their budget did not do anything to reflect the
been able to accomplish. i mean, think of where we were around the inauguration roughly this time last year in the promises he was making, to get covid under control, control a sense of national unity and stability after four years of chaos. and to pass this really ambitious legislative agenda consisting of infrastructure, social spending programs, and voting rights. now, look at where we are today. covid continues to run rampant. the supreme court just struck down part of that vaccine mandate. inflation is at a 40-year high. and build back better and voting rights are all but dead. now, there have been some really significant accomplishments. we can look at the bipartisan support for infrastructure which passed, the stimulus bill. but the failures have been pretty spectacular as well. the failure of build back better i think is going to be the most consequential when it comes to the midterms. that is the one piece of legislation that could have had an immediate positive impact on peop
quickly. and it seems as though how do you continue this momentum as you re saying that the longer things kind of wait and are diluted, the tougher it is to get these things done. so is there are there conversations right now about getting all of this on the front burner? absolutely there are. but at the same time, like, this is a huge bill to be negotiating. you have sinema already saying she s not happy with what s in the house bill and she wants to work more closely with the white house. you have bernie sanders saying he wants to shore up medicare and other social spending programs. so essentially, there s they re not exactly all in alignment right now. it takes time. there s only a few weeks before the senate goes out of session. but you have to create these artificial deadlines to make sure that people are moving and if they don t stagnate and that public opinion changes while they re negotiating.
