Ajayab Singh stands outside his home in Malkana village, about 50 kilometres from Bathinda city, under the blazing sun, getting the boundary wall of his home raised. He points to the open drain running next to the wall and says it overflows during monsoon, and raising the boundary wall would at least prevent the sewer water from coming inside the home.
Mazhabi Sikhs, with the highest portion of 26.33% population among Dalits, are the largest group followed by Ravidasia and Ramdasias, which together constitute 20.76%. The Adharmis and Balmikis are 10.17% and 8.6% of the population respectively.
