joe walsh is back with us this morning. joe, aside from afghanistan this week which of course has been a massive story. there were also big developments involving the investigation into the attack on the capitol earlier this year in january. house minority leader kevin mccarthy made that threat to telecommunication companies saying if they complied with records request from the committee doing the investigating when republicans are in the majority he said they would not forget. joe, we have now learned he s among the lawmakers whose phone records the panel is requesting that these telecommunications companies reserve. kaitlan, mccarthy is nervous. jim jordan is nervous. these republicans are nervous. no doubt about that. but i m struck again the language mccarthy and marjorie taylor greene and jordan and the rest of them used threatening these private companies. the government is going to come after you. man, this is not the republican party i belonged to. this is trump s p
remnants of hurricane ida battered the northeast with record-breaking rain and historic and deadly flooding. at least 46 people have now died across six states. many drowning in their homes and cars. more than 20 million people remain under flood warnings this morning. the threat of flooding from rising rivers is expected to continue into the holiday weekend. and officials say that more than 500 new yorkers had to be rescued from flooded roads, buildings and subway stations. the new york police department even had to make a water rescue in central park. at least eight tornadoes touched down in pennsylvania, massachusetts and new jersey. at times reducing homes to nothing but splinters. and now, the clean-up and damage assessment begins. we begin this morning with cnn s polo sandoval who is live in hard-hit bound brook, new jersey. polo, hey, what s going on? and what are you seeing over there? reporter: kaitlan, good morning to you. that nearby river is slowly it s stil
live, from cnn center, this is cnn newsroom with robyn curnow. we are tracking this breaking news out of afghanistan where the taliban have seized jalalabad. that s according to an afghan official. the last of the capital kabul, the only major city still controlled by the central government. we are, also, learning that the city has fallen. that means at least 24 of afghanistan s 34 provincial capitals are now in taliban hands. the news comes, as u.s. president joe biden has authorized sending a thousand more troops to afghanistan. that s on top of 4,000, already, cleared for deployment. they re meant to help get u.s. personnel and their allies out of the country, as the taliban offensive rolls on. now, that swift advance has triggered an exodus. thousands of people, trying to escape the taliban have fled to kabul and that s putting even more pressure on a weakened government, surrounded by enemies. cyril vanier has reported from inside afghanistan and for the latest, he
