Kenneth Kozel

Kenneth Kozel  University of Maryland Shore Regional Health  As a regional medical care network that serves the midshore region of the Eastern Shore, including Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties, the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UMSRH) has had its hands full during the pandemic.  But according to President and CEO Kenneth Kozel, the organization has met the challenge.   “From my perspective, Shore Regional Health’s biggest success in responding to the pandemic has been our ability to fulfill our role as the anchor institution in the communities we serve,” Kozel said.  “In Maryland’s rural midshore, our populations are small, we are geographically dispersed and have very limited resources,” he added. “Nevertheless, UMSRH has recognized the need for innovation, integration and team work and we have taken the lead to address the challenges our community has faced.

UM hospitals plan for 'expected increase' in COVID-19 patients

EASTON — University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, in anticipation of its hospitals being “busier in the coming months” than in the spring amid increasing COVID-19 spread, is regularly reevaluating its surge plans to address staffing shortages, the hospital system’s spokesperson said. UM Shore Regional Health reported 15 confirmed COVID-19 infected patients last week hospitalized across its three hospitals in Easton, Chestertown and Cambridge, according to spokesperson Trena Williamson. Williamson said it’s not the most coronavirus-positive patients the hospitals have seen since the pandemic began, but she confirmed there were additional COVID-19 tests pending among patients. The number of cases and pending tests within the hospitals, she said, changes “by the minute.”
