Days after the Rajkot fire tragedy, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to install fire fighting systems in its headquarters in the heritage Khanderao Market building. Sources said that safety equipment had been provided as per the norms at the building for quite some time now, but it was decided to enhance this. VMC standing committee chairman Dr Sheetal Mistry said that the building was old and some parts had narrow passages. Over the years VMC made several alterations and additions inside the building to suit its requirements. Water supply for the hydrants has been arranged from an existing water tank at the headquarters. A water pump and other apparatus needed for the hydrants have been put up near the water tank.
