Amesbury mom held in custody after arrest on illegal gun charge

Dec 17, 2020 AMESBURY - The mother of two small children was thrown behind bars Wednesday after an Essex County prosecutor told a Newburyport District Court judge that local police found a 1970s-era revolver in her apartment closet.  Kylee Hersey, 35, of Clarks Road, was charged with possessing a firearm without a license and improper storage of a firearm, and ordered held on $1,000 cash bail. But because she was on probation at the time of her arrest Tuesday, Judge Allen Swan ordered her held without bail until at least next month s probation revocation hearing.  Essex County prosecutor Shailagh Kennedy asked for $2,500 cash bail considering the 1976 Colt revolver was inside a closet where her two children, ages, 2 and 5 could have seen it.

Man charged with gun offense after I-95 crash avoids jail time

Dec 13, 2020 NEWBURY — A Hampton, New Hampshire, man, who had an illegal 9mm handgun strapped to his ankle when he crashed his pickup on Interstate 95 south in March, avoided jail time Friday after pleading guilty to multiple charges in Newburyport District Court.  As he was being freed from the crumpled truck on the morning of March 23, Josue Ordonez, 35, told police he had a loaded handgun holstered to his ankle. Troopers ran a check of the firearm and Ordonez, and learned he did not have a license to carry the gun, according to an Essex County prosecutor.  Ordonez was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with injuries. He was charged with seven offenses, including operating a motor vehicle to endanger, speeding, a marked lanes violation and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
