Why you're wrong about the Algarve

Why you re wrong about the Algarve Ignore the stereotype: there s so much more to the Algarve than its beaches and golf courses. You just have to know where to look 14 May 2021 • 4:24pm Walk the wild west: A week-long rambling holiday will take you along dunes and clifftops, to isolated coves and paths lined with Mediterranean flora This summer, the Algarve is our best chance of a sun-soaked European getaway, with Portugal planted firmly on the UK’s travel green list and the Portuguese government having now lifted its travel ban to allow British holidaymakers to fly to the country from May 17. No doubt you’ll gravitate towards the Algarve’s Blue Flag beaches and glitzy resorts, but look beyond and you’ll find a region full of surprises.

Charity success

Charity success Since early June, the members of Serra De Monchique Golf Club have been supporting the charity “Algarve Families in Need” with groceries and cash donations. Incredibly in such a short time in addition to masses of food, toiletries and other essential items, their efforts have raised an amazing €5,525. To put that in context this represents over 800 weekly grocery bags to the most needy families in the Algarve! The Algarve Families in Need charity was created by Bernadette Abbot to provide support and practical help to those families who have seen their incomes destroyed by Covid-19. It is run by a network of unpaid volunteers who devote their spare time to helping the poorest people in the South of Portugal not only with groceries but also with the delivery of much needed second hand furniture, clothing and domestic appliances.
