Reporter this is been a very difficult and long morning. Its still a very active seen here in altoona. Law enforcement tells me the man was pronounced dead. They have been working for the last three in at hours to recover the victim. Sergeant Jason Ferguson tells us a construction worker was inside the trench working while another worker was using an excavator on the trench collapsed. The hole could be 12 feet or deeper. The recovery effort is difficult and can take a couple more hours as emergency crews continue to battle the element. It is cold but they are currently facing a hole with a the shoring is giving them problems because of the collapse. That is what they are dealing with. They need to be safe in order to do the rescue. Started slashing and stabbing people along the way. This happened before 7 15 this morning. This is 15 miles east of pittsburgh at franklin high school. The first indication that something was wrong was the fact that someone pulled the fire alarm. The fire alarm went off. I was walking over towards the exit and there was blood on the floor. I thought maybe someone had a nosebleed. Someone yelled she got stabbed. This is the conversation between police and dispatch. We have got victims here. We need ambulances here as soon as possible. Be advised the suspect is in custody. Only one suspect. 19 students and a Security Guard were injured. Many of them were stabbed or slashed in the chest, back, or abdomen and some of the wounds were quite deep and this happened in a suburb. This is a small community, tight knit there in pennsylvania.
