New Delhi– Sarita Mor stamped her authority in the Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty on Thursday by defending the women’s 59 kg title. Indian women also won two bronze medals through Seema and Pooja besides Sarita’s gold.
The 25-year-old Haryana wrestler made a dramatic turnaround in the closing stages of the six-minute final bout to score a thrilling 10-7 win over Mongolia’s Shoovdor Baatarjav.
Trailing 1-4 after the opening three minutes, the Indian wrestler bounced back to level the score at 7-all in the second half of the contest. With just 12 seconds to go she raced to a 10-7 lead to retain her crown. ....

ALMATY, Apr 15:
Scripting a sensational comeback, an aggressive Sarita Mor reeled off nine straight points in the summit clash to retain her Asian Championship title in 59kg while Seema Bisla (50kg) and Pooja (76kg) settled for bronze medals here today.
Sarita, who won gold at the 2020 championship in New Delhi, trailed 1-7 after a botched-up challenge but turned it around with a tremendous fight back against Mongolia’s Shoovdor Baatarjav.
Attempting a move at 1-3 on the edge of the mat, Sarita lost her balance, allowing her rival to get one point. However, the Mongolian’s coach challenged the call to get her ward four points. ....

China follows Japan in withdrawing women from UWW Asian Championships

China’s women pulled out of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Asian Championships in Almaty on the eve of their competition today and were due to have left Kazakhstan by tonight.
The UWW quoted a team official as saying that the Chinese women had been undergoing two days of testing by the Chinese embassy in the Kazakhstan capital.
It was the latest blow to the women’s event following Japan’s decision not to send its team because some of the team s members were suspected of having come into contact with someone infected with COVID-19.
Wrestlers from North Korea were also absent because of COVID-19 issues. ....
