Marshall University has received a substantial investment of $500,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission to continue building on its reputation as a premier cyber security academic institution in Appalachia.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Cybersecurity Subcommittee, along with Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, announced the funding for the Appalachian Cybersecurity Training, Innovation & Opportunity Network (ACTION) project. This project will create a virtual network of shared learning materials and lay the groundwork for a cyber workforce in central and southern Appalachia.
Recently, Marshall students and faculty participated in the world’s largest international cyber defense exercise, run virtually by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, Estonia, according to a news release from
