In a recent episode of hit 9-1-1 hit TV series, which follows a tight-knit group of first responders in Los Angeles, the team is called to a home where a man lies unconscious and bleeding in a shower stall. Turns out, the man lives in a “smart home,” where everything is digitally controlled – including the shower temperature. A scorned ex-girlfriend had gleefully hacked into his system, turned the shower temperature up and watched as the poor guy fell unconscious. She managed to turn the water off via her computer before calling 9-1-1 for help – and was later arrested for having cyber-attacked her ex’s system.
