The making of a man can be traced in this past, but yet young dwight d. Eisenhower that would be led one day to the highest Elective Office than an american can attain. He was born in this house, in Denison Texas in 1890. And in abilene kansas, in this white building, his boyhood room is much as he left it. Dwights high school memories, can be those of 100 million other americans, remaining in abilene after is graduation in 1909, he took a job as a general handymen, and it is Still Standing where his father worked. Pulling ice was one of the heavy chores, as he waited for his appointment to the west point academy. At the academy, cadet eisenhower worship in the chapel, and pledged his attention to duty and devotion to honor, and service to country ended the traditions of the school. Now, i tried to enlist in the service the minute we were attacked by japan but i was colorblind and i couldnt get in. But they had what they called the enlisted reserve corps, which they let College Students go into with the idea that you would serve a basic training and then you would go back to school. Their thinking was maybe this war wasnt going to go too far. Youd go back to school and start again wherever it left off. I went to try to enlist. I was colorblind. Had to go back. Finally i got in the army but i was restricted for what i could do. I went to texas for basic training. I spent 16 weeks in texas. They send me from texas to the university of connecticut to continue my education. Unfortunately when i got to the university of connecticut, i found i had had everything they were teaching. I had already been through. So i reported to them that i was wasting my time, and they suggested they would send me to m. I. T. Thats ....
