In the aftermath of a devastating EF-2 tornado that stormed through a south-end neighbourhood in Barrie, members of the Emergency Control Group are working to create a plan to improve how it responds to a natural disaster.
BARRIE, ONT. The EF-2 tornado that ripped apart dozens of homes in a Barrie, Ont., neighbourhood last week is estimated to have caused more damage than a devastating twister that touched down in Angus seven years ago. The City of Barrie says there are currently 70 unsafe orders still in place, although 18 families have been allowed to return to their homes. Still, signs of recovery are starting to appear just eight days after the destructive twister. Contractors and cleaning crews are on-site at many properties, working to rebuild what they can, while volunteers come together to help residents pick up the pieces.
A protest on Saturday against the current COVID-19 restrictions and health guidelines attracted about 60 people to Meridian Place. And organizers vow to be there every weekend until all the restrictions are lifted.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit went from the grey lockdown zone to the less restrictive red control zone on Monday, March 8.
Under the red zone rules, people are still asked to wear masks while restaurants, gyms and personal care businesses must restrict their capacity.
The Freedom of Information Rally and Lockdown Dispute was held this past Saturday at Meridian Place and attracted approximately 60 people who are against the restrictions.
