Bach Week is an annual event put on in San Luis Obispo every January. KCBX’s Melanie Senn attended Bach Week to learn more about Bach himself, his influence, and his continued relevance in a diversifying world.
– The Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer and two Cal Poly choirs will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Miossi Hall of the Performing Arts Center.
– The Cal Poly Music Department will present its annual Bach Week in person Tuesday through Saturday, Jan. 18-22, with presentations and performances on campus and at the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, California Following the murder of San Luis Obispo Detective Luca Benedetti, who was shot and killed while serving a warrant on May 10th, the Department memorialized the officer by hanging two Thin Blue Line flags in front of police headquarters. The community came together in the aftermath of the tragedy, tying blue ribbons on trees and attaching Thin Blue Line flags to their vehicles in support of Benedetti’s family and law enforcement in general.
In the midst of the grief, Cal Poly music professor Scott Glysson called these actions ‘racist.’ Glysson explained on Facebook that “The flag with the blue line is not a sign of community support for police.” And he further declared without citing any evidence that the Thin Blue Line flag “is a racist symbol. It was popularized at the same time and in direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement.”

Following the murder of 37-year-old detective Luca Benedetti, who was shot and killed while serving a warrant, the San Luis Obispo Police Department memorialized the officer by hanging two blue line flags in front of headquarters.
Throughout San Luis Obispo, people tied blue ribbons on trees and attached blue line flags to their vehicles in support of the officer’s family and law enforcement, actions that Cal Poly music professor Scott Glysson deemed racist.
“The flag with the blue line is not a sign of community support for police,” Glysson posted on Facebook. “It is a racist symbol. It was popularized at the same time and in direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement.”
