A devastated mother of three said she refuses to call the horror car crash that killed her husband an accident as the man who crashed into him at 182km/h was sentenced.

Mackay City Patrol Acting Inspector Anthony Cowan last month said Mr Burrage had been testing newly installed headlights on his 4WD and was stopped on an access road when his vehicle was struck by a Mitsubishi Lancer about 7.50pm on March 20. Inspector Cowan said the Lancer had earlier that night come to the attention of police at a roadside traffic operation during which checks found the car had been fitted with allegedly stolen number plates. An East Mackay man police allege was driving the Lancer was taken to Mackay Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Checks revealed the ute was registered to Knight, who handed himself in to police four days later on March 23.
He told police he deliberately drove off and turned off his lights because he knew he was disqualified.
He also said he had stopped at Marian school to wait for the officers but they never arrived and that he had since had his ute moved to his mum’s house to remove his access.
He pleaded guilty to disqualified driving, evasion and speeding.
Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen asked the police prosecutor for “the date of the recent fatality on this road in this same area”.
