The care facility is run by charity Hft, which has handed in its notice to Wiltshire Council. Families say they have been left in limbo over the uncertain future of the Rowde site, which is home to vulnerable adults. Wiltshire Council cabinet member for adult social care, Simon Jacobs, had expressed his personal desire for residents of Furlong Close to remain at the facility for the remainder of their lives, in a meeting last week. Mark Mangham, a Liberal Democrat candidate for Bromham, Rowde and Roundway, has been working alongside Save Furlong Close campaigners to seek clarification on the future of the facility.

Rowde councillor allegedly barred from asking officers

Councillor Anna Cuthbert A councillor has been allegedly barred from asking questions about Hft who own Furlong Close. Cllr Anna Cuthbert, who represents Rowde where Furlong Close is located, said she had received a message telling her to put all her questions through the cabinet member for adult social care, Simon Jacobs and council leader Philip Whitehead. She said that “infrequent” meetings were taking place between herself and officers about the future of Furlong Close. But when Cllr Cuthbert was due to have another meeting, council officers said following a lengthy discussion with Cllr Jacobs it was requested she speak with the cabinet member or the leader directly about Hft. This, she was told, was “normal practice”.
