9 hours ago Share Although city officials and property owners have expressed a desire to redesign two key downtown blocks, merchants aren’t happy with the prospect of losing parking spaces.
A group of downtown business owners is asking the city not to proceed with a plan to widen sidewalks in the 1400 and 1500 blocks of Main Street by replacing angled parking with a reduced number of parallel parking spaces.
Although the project is still in the conceptual stage, merchants on the blocks are raising concerns about shrinking the on-street parking supply. Darci Jacob, the owner of clothing boutique Darci, and Harmoni Krusing Bens, the owner of Lotus Boutique, gathered signatures from businesses opposing the concept unless a series of other issues are addressed first.

Pretty much guaranteed to lift your spirits, the brilliant Bradenton-based reggae band Jah Movement, led by co-lead singers Shantel Norman and Damie Caines, plays Realize Bradenton and the Manatee Performing Arts Center’s free concert series Music in the Park(ing Lot) this week. Fifty parking spaces are available, with four people allowed per space (along with their chairs). Reservations are required and can be made at manateeperformingartscenter.com. The show also will be livestreamed on Realize Bradenton’s Facebook page and website. SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The Sarasota Spring Fine Art Festival is wrapping up on Sunday, March 7, at J.D. Hamel Park in Downtown Sarasota.
The Spring Fine Art Festival brought artisans from across America to show off their original work. The gallery is comprised of several different mediums such as paintings, sculptures, jewelry, photography, glass, ceramics, digital art, and much more.
This event is being produced by Paragon Festivals with the help of the Sarasota Downtown Enrichment Association. In addition to all the beautiful artwork, the Humane Society of Sarasota County will have their Big Mac Mobile Adoption unit onsite.
