Emma Dalton, a Saranac Lake High School student who has Rett syndrome, was featured on Anderson Cooperâs digital show Full Circle last week
(Provided photo â Jen Dalton) SARANAC LAKE Last week, Emma Dalton and her mother Jen watched as Anderson Cooper told his audience about how Emma stays connected to her group of friends with Rett syndrome across the country using a variety of technologies. Emma is 14 and has Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that limits her motor skills and her ability to talk. But using eye-tracking and speech-generating technology she communicates fluently with friends, family and classmates at Saranac Lake High School.
– James Carpenter is originally from outside New York City, having grown up on the mean streets of Scarsdale. His love for the Adirondacks was inspired by years spent at a small summer camp on Upper Saranac Lake. In 2003 he moved with his family to Lake Clear. Before becoming a teaching assistant at the high school, James has had a myriad of jobs including limousine company owner, social studies teacher, copier salesman, stay-at-home dad and tele-evangelist. He is the father of Charlie (TA extraordinaire in the elementary school) and Maggie (college sophomore at the University of Rochester), and rides the coattails of his wife Laura, who is a scientist. He is a graduate of both St. Lawrence University and Fordham University. He is a proud member of the Elks and has been the master of ceremonies on Trivia Night at the Elks club for the past 23 years, with the help of his good friend Tyler Chase.
