The Santa Cruz City Council paused police plans on Tuesday to seek funding to install more than a dozen automated license plate-reading cameras at major traffic intersections and city gateways.
The original complaint, now held up by the court, alleged that the state failed to consult with local law enforcement before approving the coalition's syringe exchange application, failed to notify three of the affected local law enforcement agencies about the comment period, impermissibly provided only 45 of the required 90 days for public comment and failed to conduct an environmental review of the distribution.
Two friends from Texas got into a fight on Friday night that resulted in one dying, say the Santa Cruz Police. Cops responded to a report at 10:58 p.m. on Nov. 17 of two people fighting in the 600 block of Front St., near the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. When they arrived one man was on the ground, unconscious. Paramedics gave life-saving treatment but the man passed away at a hospital. "They'd been friends for several several years," says Deputy Chief Jon Bush of the Santa Cruz Police Department. "It appears they were downtown having a good time drinking, and for some reason they started having an argument."
