The HC, however, said that Singh is entitled to a “fair trial” and directed the trial court to “expedite” the trial in the present case once it commences.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier opposed Singh’s bail plea in the Delhi excise policy case citing bribes allegedly collected on his behalf, his influential nature, and approver Dinesh Arora’s statements alleging his involvement in the case.
While Singh said the chargesheet filed in the excise policy case had no evidence of money reaching him, the ED said it was ‘nearly impossible’ to get direct evidence in such cases.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh has moved the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case. The Court will hear the matter today.
Appearing for Singh, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhri argued that it was a case of rampant abuse of process of law. “It is not only important to protect my liberty, but also to set a precedent as to what is happening immediately after October 3 when the SC had given a milestone judgment in Pankaj Bansal’s case,” Chaudhari said.
