Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong expressed disappointment at the Federal Government’s unwillingness to provide special tax incentives for Sabah in order to attract more investments to the State and grow its manufacturing industry.
She was responding to the Prime Minister’s written reply to her request in the Parliament for the Federal Government to implement a special tax regime for Sabah to attract more factories, thus helping to bridge the industrial development gap between Sabah and the peninsula
Minister in Prime Minister Department (Economy) Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed admitted that Sabah is lagging behind with a poverty rate of 19.5pc as compared to national average of 5.6pc and a GDP per capita of RM5,745 as compare to the national average of RM7,901.
Stating this in response to a question by Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong, Mustapa said under the 2nd rolling plan, the Government has embarked on 1,048 projects in Sabah, including Pan Borneo Highway Project, Sandakan Sewerage Scheme II and the expansion of Sandakan Airport Runway
A total of 115 food baskets were distributed to six staff and members of local non -governmental organisations (NGOs) here.
The contribution was presented by Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong Shir Yee to representatives of the NGOs including Sandakan Pink Ribbon, Sabah Society for the Deaf (Sandakan), Sandakan Ren Ai Counseling Association, Sandakan Kidney Patients Association, Sabah Cheshire Home Sandakan and BCCM Agape Centre.
