Sabah is lagging behind with 19.5pc poverty rate | Daily Express Online

Minister in Prime Minister Department (Economy) Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed admitted that Sabah is lagging behind with a poverty rate of 19.5pc as compared to national average of 5.6pc and a GDP per capita of RM5,745 as compare to the national average of RM7,901.  Stating this in response to a question by Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong, Mustapa said under the 2nd rolling plan, the Government has embarked on 1,048 projects in Sabah, including Pan Borneo Highway Project, Sandakan Sewerage Scheme II and the expansion of Sandakan Airport Runway

Applications for food baskets closed | Daily Express Online - Sabah's Leading News Portal

A total of 115 food baskets were distributed to six staff and members of local non -governmental organisations (NGOs) here.  The contribution was presented by Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong Shir Yee to representatives of the NGOs including Sandakan Pink Ribbon, Sabah Society for the Deaf (Sandakan), Sandakan Ren Ai Counseling Association, Sandakan Kidney Patients Association, Sabah Cheshire Home Sandakan and BCCM Agape Centre.  Each food basket containing rice, vermicelli, noodles, flour, biscuits, instant noodles, tea and salt.  She also said applications have closed as the number of applicants has exceeded 8,000. There was still a shortage of 500 sets of food baskets
