legalization initiatives spread into the american south, into texas and arkansas. and so you re right, this is very much a popular issue with americans. more and more lawmakers are on board. as more and more states vote these laws into place. which calls into question sessions, you know, his rescincion of the things from the obama era. thanks so much for joining me, i appreciate it. up next, one year ago president trump was settling into his first weekend in the oval office. and it was marked by a travel ban, a raid in yemen and sally yates being fired, remember her? the impact of that first weekend is still being felt today. that was one year ago today. if you wonder why you re so tired a year later, and why you aged so much, that happened a year ago. his first weekend.
having me on. appreciate it. let me just get your response first. obviously you re the attorney general of a state, the acting attorney general of the united states has just been fired. on a point of principle over this matter that you are suing the federal government about. what s your reaction to sally yates being fired tonight? it s troubling. and i ve been listening to you and your guests and i think they re hitting it right on the mark, this is troubling for the justice department and the independence of that department. i think sally yates, she had a right. it s a difficult order to defend. we believe it s unconstitutional and un-american but overall, yes, this is a troubling day, no two ways about that. can i just ask as a matter of federal procedure, so you ve brought this case against the president s order in federal court, you are seeking a nationwide stay. we ve seen the court excuse me, the order appear in court fooi times in one way or another since he signed it on
relief. the real question is what happened with sally yates. she answers to president, nominee jeff sessions pending in the senate. going to see a lot of noise from the white house to speed up the confirmation of senator sessions and perhaps to not even let sally yates hang around long enough to let that happen. until that happens, wolf, we re going to have lawsuits going forward without the justice department necessarily responding and trying to argue that the executive order is lawful. the president can fire sally yates and bring in somebody else in a moment. could, hark bs back to saturday night massacre during nixon administration where he kept firing senior justice department officials until he found someone who would fire the special prosecutor. so i think with he could see that with sally yates being fired and see if there s anyone in the upper echelons of the justice department right now who is willing to actually reverse
