However, she said, it is good for raising awareness about the issue.
“It will draw attention to the fact that there has been inequality throughout the history of the country,” Rafferty said.
Rafferty would prefer to see those millions used to look into disparities in education, police brutality and red-lining, and how there’s still segregation in Boston even though we like to think there isn’t.
Rafferty said she didn’t realize when she was growing up how many people just are not aware of the history of slavery and the persistence of inequality.
“I grew up knowing these things and understanding these things,” she said.
