Fastnacht Day 2021: Where to find the doughy treats as fewer offer them because of COVID
Heads up, fastnacht lovers.
It s not going to be as easy to find those doughy treats for Shrove Tuesday, which falls on Feb. 16.
Fastnacht Day is also known as Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras and Pancake Day. It s the last day to use up sugar, lard and butter before the start of Lent.
Several popular spots in the region will not be making and selling fastnachts this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
This includes St. James Lutheran Church in Adams County, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lancaster County, Saint Cecilia s Catholic Church in Lebanon County and the Stewartstown Senior Center in York County.

I WAS RAISED BY MY GRANDMOTHER in the Robert Taylor Homes, a housing project on Chicago’s South Side, but frequently stayed at the home of my aunt Rosemary Jarrett, my grandmother’s oldest daughter. When my adoption was finalized, my birth certificate and other documents indelibly amended, my aunt became, legally, my sister, a novel relation that would be indispensable, steadying.
My aunt had back then a marvelously filthy mouth, supplemented by a full and ribald laugh. She inherited from her mother a talent for entertaining, as well as an exuberant, maximalist approach to the adornment of self and home. These impulses converged in the art parties she hosted when I was younger.
